VBR&S Overview

The VBR&S web site gives you a good look at the railroad's features. Here I'll try to show you things that will make operating on the layout easier, as we try to duplicate a typical day on the Southern Railway in 1956.

Track Schematic & Industry Guide

North

South

All visible Southern Railway mainline track is shown. Yard tracks and some industry tracks are not shown. All industries are shown. If they are accessed directly from the mainline their track is shown, otherwise they are grouped at their mainline access point. C&O & VBR tracks are not shown, although their access point to the southern are. Hidden holding reverse loops at Montview and Rio are not shown.

Shown as a line map, the area featured on the VBR&S.

Was delighted to find your site and humbled by all the work it must take to create and maintain such a thing.

My mother's family (her Great Uncle Fordyce Cobb - one of the VBR founders) used to attend the annual meetings of the VBR into the 60's. Quarterly "railroad checks" were used to buy my siblings' school clothes. I only remember one such annual meeting, but oh-so-vividly, since we took a ride on the then-still-steaming passenger line.

Would love to visit your railroad some day. Planning a trip to the area for next summer.
